NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a name that encompasses the three most influential components involved in producing human experience: Neurology, Language and Programming. Although NLP is an extremely powerful concept, it is actually based on sound, common sense principles. When your best friend tells you to “hold your head high, walk tall and smile” when you are feeling down, they are actually using NLP to help you access a more confident and resourceful part of yourself by simply adopting the physiology associated with feeling good. Simply speaking, NLP provides a systematic approach to changing the way we think, behave and communicate in order to improve our experience of life.
Because NLP was born, in part, from a study of the great hypnotherapist Milton Erickson, a lot of NLP can and does take place in a trance-like state.
Change, or rather “change for the better”, is what NLP is all about. All of the ideas, studies and techniques behind NLP are there to help a person make change for the better. NLP is a study of how other people change, so you can change.
Using hypnotherapy and NLP, you are more in contact with your unconscious mind, the seat of all emotional and behavioural problems. Most other forms of therapy are carried out at a conscious level, and often they only work on the symptoms rather than the underlying cause of the problem.
